The quickest way to see AssetBolt working is to add one device by hand.
Go to Devices and choose Create.
The create form is deliberately short. Only Name is required.
Everything else on the form is optional:
Status — defaults to Available.
Location — you can create a new location inline without leaving the form.
Asset tag — see below.
Serial number
Order number
Purchase date
Purchase cost
Warranty, in months
End-of-life date
Use Save and new to add several devices in a row.
If your organization has turned on Require asset tags (Settings → Preferences), the asset tag field becomes required when you create a device. It stays optional when you edit an existing one.
Asset tags are typed in by hand.
Manufacturer, model, category, and all the depreciation settings are not part of the create form. Add them from the device's detail page, where most fields can be edited in place by clicking them.
Manufacturers, models, and categories can each be created inline from the detail page — you don't need to set them up in advance.
Purchase cost, current value, and salvage value are stored as whole currency units. There are no cents.
Warranty is a whole number of months.
If you already have an inventory, Import from CSV on the Devices page is faster than typing. If your devices are managed by Kandji, Jamf, or Intune, connecting that integration will pull them in and keep them current — see Connecting an integration.
A row's Status column can be Available, Pending, Broken, or Archived, so an existing inventory that already has broken or retired gear can be imported as-is. Assigned and Checked out aren't accepted, since the CSV format has no column for who a device is assigned to. Import those devices with a status of Available or Pending, then assign or check them out afterward.
